Because we asked…
In 1975 I was the new Community Education Coordinator at Homecroft Elementary School. One of the teachers approached me with the idea of having an Early Childhood Program at the school the upcoming summer. I thought it was a great idea but we needed funding. We decided to approach the State to see what was available. After being transferred several times we hit the jackpot. The person was thrilled to be contacted by someone–anyone– from St. Paul. You see at the time St. Paul did not have summer school. In less than a day she would fill out the paperwork and have it ready for signatures. I hand-delivered the papers to the district office. The issue was approved by the school board promptly and we had funding and a summer school program for elementary and secondary students. We asked and the rest, as they say, is history.
Sincerely,
Dave Pasiuk
Photos below show Homecroft’s east facade as well as the new entrance on the south side. It’s a wonderful coincidence that this site is now the Homecroft Early Learning Center, bringing key staff together in one place and hosting the district’s largest Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program.
