Don Irish’s Support

A man who walks his talk with more integrity than nearly anyone I have ever known, Don Irish is a long-time peace and justice activist and founding member of Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers.

As part of a letter that Don sent out in support of Green Party candidates for St. Paul City Council and School Board, he included this paragraph, reprinted in full below. Thank you, Don, for your steadfast support for justice and peace for children and all the rest of us in St. Paul and around the world.

“There are 10 applicants for the fours positions on the School Board. I have a strong interest in seeing Anne Carroll re-elected to the School Board. During the years since 1964 when we lived in St. Paul and our daughters attended St. Paul schools, I have come to know and ally often with Anne in our efforts to eliminate the JROTC from the St. Paul school system. At one brief time we had a close majority of the Board supporting ending the JROTC, but not enough to secure action. To my knowledge, Anne is the only “peace person” on the board and continues to be committed to ending JROTC. Her children graduated from the St. Paul schools. She’s very knowledgeable and has a wealth of experience with several years on the Board. Anne’s knowledge, commitment, experience, integrity, and viewpoints hearten me. She and I still collaborate on school issues. I ask you to vote for her also, and urge your friends and neighbors to do the same.”

Don is also a committed bus rider and bicyclist, and at “91 years young” last year was featured by Transit for Livable Communities.
